Animal Crossing: New Leaf is getting new features this fall

I know what you\’re thinking:
\”Tristan, this game is Four years old. Who cares?\”

Well… I do!

Animal Crossing is an important game. It\’s a true \”zen moment\” that you can get lost in. It\’s less about achievement and more about just existing in your space. I\’ve spent over 200 hours of my life in my happy little village, picking fruit, snatching bugs, tirelessly harassing Chops in an attempt to get him to move out.

(Seriously, Chops. You can move out now. Nobody wants to come over to talk about your stupid furniture. This isn\’t Downton Abbey, and I swear to your stupid pig face I\’ll hit you with my bug net all day.)

Anyway, Nintendo has summoned the title from the grave for a last hoorah. Via the Japanese Animal Crossing site, the big N has shown how they plan to implement support for your dusty Amiibo collection. You\’ll be able to use your console\’s NFC capabilities to scan the figures you\’ve been buying like a crack addict on a bender, or the cards released along side the dismal sequel, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Doing so will net you new content related to your collection. Great News!

Why would Nintendo make a move like this? Despite being aged, New Leaf is one of the consoles most popular titles. Walking in New York City, my 3ds\’ Streetpass feature alone has shown me the amount of people still playing this game is impressive. Maybe Nintendo is trying to right their mistakes of releasing two series sequels (Happy Home Designer and Amiibo Festival) which completely misfired on what it means to be an Animal Crossing game. Maybe it\’s because the Animal Crossing collection of Amiibo sales numbers haven\’t been as impressive as the Super Smash Brothers collection.

(They are adorable, though)

All I know is I will soon have a reason to pop into my village and say hello once more. That\’s never a bad time.

Also, I really do hate you, Chops.

I'm unabashedly in love with Nintendo; ESPECIALLY Zelda! Spelunky is my jam. Burritos are life.
