Horizon’s on The, Uh, Horizon

Holy shit. Next week is going to be insane.

This Tuesday a game I’ve been following and highly anticipting since concept art was leaked back in 2014 will finally come out. That game is Horizon Zero Dawn. If you somehow don’t know what the deal is with Horizon, let me sum it up for you: a badass woman battles towering fierce robotic dinosaurs with crazy weapons like tripwires, a bow, and more in a revitalized post apocolyptic Earth.

I know.

It sounds amazing and it looks incredible. The trailer below is the most recent one released and all the environments shown are in-game and not pre-rendered like that Killzone 2 trailer at E3. Trust me when I say, Guerrilla Games learned from that fiasco. Judging from how consistently you, our readers, search for Horizon on our site (almost weekly) I’d say you’re really looking forward to it as well. I’m sure you’ve also seen that the game has garnered stellar reviews, with nothing I’ve seen below an 8 or 9 out of 10. That’s fantastic for a new IP.

And yet, as much as I wanted to buy Horizon, I couldn’t justify it when in just three short days later I’ll have my Switch and Zelda Breath of the Wild. You know, that other massive open world game. Well, as you may have heard in our most recent podcast episode, my birthday was a couple days ago, and my lovely family here at Pixelrater all chipped in and got me the collector’s edition of Horizon Zero Dawn! Holy shit! Needless to say, my hype to take down robo-dinos while getting my ass handed to me over and over is at a fever pitch once again. And even if it’s temporarily put on hold when Switch and Zelda come out, I’ll no doubt be returning back to Aloy’s world in order to unravel the mystery of what happened to our civilization. I can’t believe what will likely be my top two favorite games of 2017 (a bold claim I know) are releasing within the same week.

What an exciting strong star to to this year it’s been. And I love you all, both our readers/watchers/listeners, as well as my Pixelrater family. You guys mean the world to me.
