Is Mother 3 Finally Coming To North America?

The Mother series has always had a very awkward relationship with the United States. Like a secret club, the game was almost destined to slip into a niche identity that only the most adoring fans would follow (but boy have they ever).

Nintendo skipped North America completely in 1989 with the series first entry on the NES, giving it little fan recognition. It would eventually make its way over here in the form of the WiiU eshop game titled, Earthbound: Beginnings.

The SNES sequel, Mother 2, or Earthbound, as we know it on these shores, was released here, but was a disaster story all on its own. Launching late into the SNES life and plagued by development issues, the game may have never seen the light of day if the late Satoru Iwata had not stepped into recode the project into something playable. To make matters worse, it came with a high price of entry. The game was packaged with the strategy guide, running you a hefty amount more than a normally priced title. This, coupled with the game\’s awful marketing campaign, gave unfamiliar fans little reason to find the game.

(They really didnt want people to buy this.)

Mother 3 may be the most frustrating tale of the three. Since it’s release in 2006, Americans coveted the idea that they too would get to experience the silly world thought up by Shigesato Itoi. Frustratingly, we were left in the dust. Fans have been greeted largely with silence over the matter from Nintendo, with the occasional jest. Years have passed, and with no localized game of their own, fans even resorted to patching their own translation into uploaded roms. The team has even offered to give the patch to Nintendo for use, but nothing has ever materialized.

The wait may finally be over however, as recent string of rumors point to the notion that the game is finally receiving a European Localization to be released on the eshop alongside its siblings. Originally reported by Eurogamer, Both Liam Robertson and Emily Rogers have tweeted recently in regards to the project coming this way. What makes this interesting is both parties have a history of accurate inside information leading to releases. Even more noteworthy, since the tweets, Emily appears to have vanished from Twitter completely. Interesting. \"Screen

What do you think? Are you excited by the idea of finally getting to play as Lucas and his friends on an official platform?

I'm unabashedly in love with Nintendo; ESPECIALLY Zelda! Spelunky is my jam. Burritos are life.
