New Sonic Games, Sonic Mania & Project Sonic, Announced

Growing up I always liked Sonic, but like many gamers, he played second fiddle next to Mario and friends. Regardless Sonic and Sonic 2 are still fantastic games to this day and I have them both on my phone and 3DS. These original titles are arguably the best games starring the blue hedgehog and his fox sidekick, Tales, and came out roughly 20 years ago with almost every game since then being a disappointment. That\’s not to say good Sonic haven\’t come out. Personally, I was a big fan of Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors, but those games came out quite a while ago. After that Sega\’s partnership with Nintendo produced the mediocre Sonic Lost World for Wii U and 3DS. But at least they were better than Sonic Unleashed or the abysmal Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. While the Sonic Boom game series isn\’t well received, the animated TV show is petty slick from what I\’ve heard. You can check out the show for yourself here.

Things are looking up for both fans of Sonic\’s 2D and 3D games though, with the announcement of Sonic Mania, an old school 2D side scroller and Project Sonic, a 3D game that reminds me of Sonic Generations. The trailers are embedded below for your viewing pleasure. At the time of writing Sonic Mania is slated for a Spring 2017 release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with Project Sonic releasing on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and NX by holiday 2017. For the first time in a long time I\’m excited for not just a Sonic game, but two Sonic games!

There are no Steam sales to celebrate Sonic 25th and the Humble Bundle is over, but Nintendo and Sega are offering pretty nice discounts for 3DS and Wii U titles as you can see above.
