Pokémon Go Details Emerge

We have details on Pokémon Go, the mobile game coming to Android and iOS phones around the world. Imagine being able to catch Pokémon in real life! It’s not quite that cool—but it’s about as close as you can get. There aren’t details yet on a pricing model for the game and/or in-app purchases, but we have some gameplay information to share with you. There’s also this footage from SXSW. Let’s dive in.

Once you download the game it’s time to head outside and catch some fresh air and explore, explore, explore! When you get near a Pokémon your phone will vibrate. Simply point your phone in the direction indicated and you’ll see the little fella show up on your screen. Throw a Pokéball and cross your fingers you catch it! While exploring you’ll only come across Pokémon when they’re in their natural setting. For example, water type Pokémon will only be near bodies of water and fire type Pokémon will be in the depths of hell or forest fires. I’m just kidding. That last part was a total lie. But having creatures in their habitat adds to the immersion and believability of the Pokémon universe. Additionally you can stock up on Pokéballs at PokeStops that you’ll find at points of interest like art instillations and historical landmarks. It’s a pretty clever way to get everyone out and about if you ask me. You’ll also be able to buy Pokémon eggs that will then hatch after you walk a certain distance, so maybe invest in good shoes if you plan on catching/hatching them all.

As you play through the game your Pokémon will naturally level up and evolve and you’ll be able to use them in gym battles as well as trade them with friends. Just like PokéStops, gyms will be located around the world in different places. To make things more interesting if you end up beating a gym leader you will then claim that location’s gym and will have to battle and fend off other players who come to take what’s yours.

The last bit of info is about the Fitbit like accessory in the shape of a teardrop that you wear on your wrist. The wrist worn accessory is called the Pokémon Go Plus and it will alert players via vibration and a LED about events like a nearby Pokémon without needing to pull out your phone.

All in all I’m pretty interested and excited for Pokémon Go’s release and can’t wait to collect, trade, and battle my friends. For more information check out the game’s official website.
