PlayStation


  • Sony cutting the price of PSVR here in North America for as low as $199.99 starting Sunday, 18th February through Saturday, 3rd March. This is the latest PSVR headset model with HDR passthrough.

  • Rumor has it that following the runaway success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Activision is lining up a Spyro the Dragon Trilogy remaster to launch as a timed exclusive for PS4 before making it’s way to other platforms

  • Horizon Zero Dawn won a Writer’s Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing. Congrats to the team at Guerrilla Games!

  • Sony has been sending out surveys regarding PlayStation Network name changes. This is something Sony president Shuhei Yoshida said the company has been working towards for a while now.

Nintendo


  • Steam World Dig 2 will release for Nintendo 3DS on 2/22 for $20.

  • Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima stated during an interview with Diamond Online that Nintendo “isn’t dissatisfied” with its relationship with DeNA on mobile games. However, since there will be more apps on the way while existing ones will continue to be serviced, collaborations with other companies is possible.

  • A new job listing has been spotted for a localization editor for The Pokémon Company, with the person’s role expected to begin between April and June. Duties involve “all editorial facets of video games, and related materials (video game strategy guide, video game web site etc.)”. One prominent rumor circulating is that this job posting is related to the upcoming Pokemon game for Switch.

Xbox


  • The official Xbox app has been updated and now allows party chat straight through the app. Just hook up a mic or use the built-in one with your phone and you’re good.

  • Everspace will receive a 4K patch for Xbox One X in the near future.

  • Prey 1 and Mafia 2 have both been added to Xbox One’s backwards compatibility library.

  • Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves will include no loot box options. They’ve also announced that the game will run on most current PCs. Functioning at 540p/30fps on machines with CPU as low as an Intel Iris6200 with 4GB of RAM. Wow!

  • Sea of Thieves will also be running a Stress Test this weekend beginning on 2/16 and running through 2/18. This is to try and max the stress load of servers, so be prepared for connection errors. Rare announced another Beta session will take place closer to launch which gives players “a taste of the wider Sea of Thieves experience.” If you’re looking for a less stressful time with Sea of Thieves pre-release experiences, maybe hold off for the latter.

Industry News


  • Hawaii has introduced 4 bills that prohibit the sale of games with loot boxes to anyone under 21 as well as forcing publishers to disclose the odds of winning.

  • Sales of PUBG on PC have surpassed the 30M mark as the number of concurrent players dip and the number of cheaters banned continues to rise.

  • Epic will be adding a 60fps performance option for console versions of Fortnite for both premium and base consoles.

  • Square Enix showed off a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3, spotlighting both Toy Story and Monsters Inc worlds, as well as a nice sampling of the new combat. The game is still slated for release this year. But let’s be real, it will never come out LOL.

  • NVIDIA has seen a 41% YoY revenue increase, largely in part due to the Switch’s massive success and its inclusion of the TegraX1 chip

  • Devil May Cry HD will be free for Twitch Prime members, starting on February 27th. Anyone with an Amazon Prime membership has access to Twitch Prime at no extra cost.

  • THQ Nordic has acquired Koch Media, owner of Deep Silver games, publisher of titles such Dead Island, Saints Row, Homefront and Metro

  • Rocket League will be getting a real life RC version of the game, made by Hot Wheels. It comes out this fall and will cost $180.

  • An update for The Evil Within 2 gives players the option to play the survival horror game from a first-person perspective and is available for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
