Here’s the Recap. I know it’s late, but uh, the Switch and Zelda came out today. Now UPS just needs to deliver mine! ?


PlayStation

  • Sony’s Andrew House revealed the company has sold 915,000 PlayStation VR units since the headset launched in October. This puts it close to the company’s internal target of 1M units in the first six months.

  • The promising looking PSVR shooter Farpoint has a release date of May 16.


Xbox

  • Microsoft announced Xbox Game Pass, a $9.99 per month service that will allow subscribers to choose from games over 100 games like Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and SoulCalibur II. New games will rotate in with others rotating out, so you may lose access to a game you like. You’ll also lose access if you cancel your membership, however, your save data will remain in tact in case you decide to purchase the game later.

  • Microsoft opens Xbox development to everyone with Xbox Live Creators Program.


Nintendo

  • The Switch is getting an extra GPU boost option while in mobile mode according to an update in Nintendo’s developer documentation. The GPU can now run at 384MHz while on the go along with the regular 307.2MHz option. This allows for 25% more performance than before.

  • Pokémon’s next movie, I Choose You, takes Ash back to the beginning. The film is set to release in Japan on June 15 with no Western date yet set.

  • Nintendo Switch has released and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild has been rated one of the best video games of all time.


Industry News

  • TinyCo and Fox announced Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a new episodic mobile game featuring new content by it’s creator and producers.

  • A sequel to Shadow of Mordor has been announced. It’s called Shadow of War.

  • Team17 announced a new FPS with a generic name called Genesis Alpha One. You can check out the trailer here.

  • Epic Games announced Battle Breakers, a new Unreal 4 powered RPG featuring cross-platform play on Android, iOS and PC.

  • Ubisoft announced Rabbids: The Big Plan for Google’s Daydream VR platform.

  • Peter Moore, best known for his roles at Sega of America, Microsoft, and most recently EA is leaving to become CEO of Liverpool Football Club in June.

  • Minecraft has sold more than 122M copies across all platforms with 55M people playing per month.

  • Niantic announces 650 million downloads for Pokemon GO.

  • Twitch announced it will enable direct game and in-game content sales from streamers’ pages starting in the spring.

  • Oculus has slashed the price of the Rift down to $499 as well as the Touch controllers to $99 in hopes of reaching a wider audience.

  • A movie starring Donnie Yen based on Square Enix and United Front Games’ Sleeping Dogs is in development.
