Recap 3.4.16

PlayStation

  • Uncharted 4 has been delayed to May 10 in order to \”ensure there will be enough stock to meet the demand of a now worldwide release date\”

  • Sony will be shutting down PlayStation Portable’s native storefront on March 31. You’ll still be able to access your previous downloads on the device as well as make new purchases on the PlayStation smartphone app, the PlayStation Store on the web, and the PS3. I still have no idea why PSP/PS Vita purchasing/management isn’t on PS4.

  • Sony has discontinued selling PS TV in Japan and stopped producing inventory for NA since the end of last year. All signs point to the end of the handheld market for Sony after the Vita is officially dead.

  • The 3.50 system software for PS4 has entered beta and with it are oft requested features like the ability to appear offline when signed in, notifications when friends get online, and enabling video streaming and archiving of past streams on Dailymotion. Still no folders. Maybe on PS5.

Xbox

  • Xbox One will receive the ability to purchase Xbox 360 Games on Xbox One, have a 16-Person Party Chat, and more in a future update. It will roll out to Preview members soon.

  • Quantum Break\’s TV style segments will have to be streamed or downloaded because they are too large to store on the game disc

Nintendo

  • You’ll be able to pick up the next wave of Nintendo Select titles for $19.99 each across Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. The titles are as follows: Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, NES Remix Pack, Yoshi’s New Island, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Mario Party: Island Tour, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Super Mario All-Stars You likely own all of them already…..especially for Wii U.

  • The half hour panel for Pokémon GO that was supped to take place at GDC has been cancelled. The company planned on showing how players would interact with their Pokémon and each other. The reasoning for the cancellation is currently unknown.

  • The House of Mario released a lot of unexpected news in yesterday’s Nintendo Direct like SNES games on new 3DS (finally). You can watch it here.

Misc Gaming

  • EA has made 1.3 billion in DLC and in app purchases in the past year

  • Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide are getting definitive editions on PS4. I have no idea why. The game will also come bundled with \”a brand new stand-alone 16-bit game set in the style of a classic side-scrolling action / endless runner within the Dead Island universe,\” called Dead Island: Retro Revenge. Moving on.

  • EA and Dice released two new trailers for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst going over movement and combat. The game releases May 24 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Coleco\’s Chameleon console crowd funding has been put on hold after gamers claimed the guts of the system were a SNES Jr crammed inside the housing while the unit was demoed and on display at the NY Toy Fair. The unit is suposed to have custom silicone. To combat these claims Coleco posted photos of the internals on their Facebook page but, yet again, eagle eyed gamers revealed the system\’s logic board on display was actually a video capture card. You can see a comparison photo here. The company has since removed the post.

Rumors

  • Beyond Good and Evil 2 is being developed exclusively for Nintendo NX similar to how Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive

  • There is a TON of NX system spec rumors leaked by Geno, who\’s information about Microsoft\’s Illumiroom project and Pokémon Sun and Moon rumors turned out to be true. While it should be taken with a grain of salt, it does align with what other sources have claimed.
      * The NX has a wireless HDMI dongle that attaches flush to the back of the device.
      * You can pull it out and insert it into any display with a normal sized HDMI output.
      * NX uses an evolved version of the Wii U’s streaming tech to display in HD on the TV screen.
      * Analog controls for movement have small motors in them for full haptic feedback. If you control a character and hit a wall, the sticks move away from the wall to simulate hitting it.
      * Bluetooth synch with tons of devices, including smartphones and tablets.
      * You can answer phone calls and display text messages from your phone onto NX screen(s).
      * Closest in terms of hardware spec to the Xbox One.
      * All tech uses the exact same hardware layout as the PS4 and Xbox One.
      * Any game that can run on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can easily run on the NX with near-zero modifications.
      * This is even more true if the game runs on Android OS or Unreal Engine 4.
      * One 3rd Party dev says “It’s the easiest device we’ve ever developed for. You just take your code, compile it and it works.\”
      * Look to Pokémon Go to get an idea of the type of social features that will be in NX.
      * Strengths of the device are its usability and ease of use.
      * Operating system, named NintendOS, is very powerful and has so many modern features of mobile operating systems.
      * Nintendo is trying to be very careful in showing it off for fear that it would be mistaken as running Android.
      * Very strong networking functions, as it ties into multiple devices and services.
      * This allows for a very competent and pervasive eco-system designed to constantly involve the consumer’s life.
