PlayStation


  • You can save 50% to more on a fairly big selection of games across PS3, PS4, PS Vita, and even PSVR in Sony’s mid-year PSN sale. Check out everything on offer here.
  • PlayStation Network that claimed to be the “easiest PS4 Platinum trophy,” allowing a player to earn one of the prized achievements by playing for just a few minutes. The game, called 1000 Top Rated, was online for two days before Sony yanked it from the store.

Xbox


  • Microsoft revealed that Forza plus it’s 4K assets will take up around 100GB of data on the Xbox One X. They also announced the Xbox service will be smart and only download 4K game assets to Xbox One X consoles, saving space for owners of the original Xbox One and Xbox One S.
  • Hot on the heels of Sony’s big mid-year PlayStation sale, Microsoft announced a mega sale across Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. You can read all about it here.

Nintendo


  • A new update has rolled out for Arms at version number 1.1.0 and adds a new arena mode which also allows for spectators. The update also adds LAN support as well as squashing bugs.
  • Tumbleseed has received a new update on Steam with Switch on the way. The new update attempts to make the game easier for newcomers by adding four additional mountains that always have the same layout rather than being procedurally generated. Moving forward, Auras will now always be beneficial with eight more available. Finally, the update adds a weekly challenge with additional changes to seed powers and enemies.
  • After much rumor and speculation, Nintendo unveiled the SNES Classic which releases September 29 for $80. For that price you get the system, two controllers, and 21 great games including Star Fox 2 which was previously unreleased!
  • Has-Been Heroes (version 1.0.3) update is out now and looks with a lot of gameplay fixes and tweaks. You can read the full list of changes here.
  • A big for Minecraft rolled out for Switch and Wii U that adds a bunch of things like Llamas, parrots, and more as well as changing the tech behind the UI which is said to boost performance.
  • Super Bomberman R has been updated with to version 1.4 three new characters: Vic Viper Bomber (from Gradius) Simon Belmont Bomber (from Castlevania), and Pyramid Head Bomber (from Silent Hill) as well as four new versus stages: Conveyor Belt Classic, Panic Factory, Plain Floor, and Desert Fort. Two new series of accessories – Item and Snowflake – are also available.
  • A alleged leak of the full Switch SDK hints that Nintendo is working towards a save data transfer option for the console and that guest accounts are also on the way.
  • Mario Kart 8 has been updated to version 1.2 with balance changes and a new Pikmin suit.
  • Nintendo revealed Kirby’s Blowout Blast will be out July 5th
  • The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild’s first piece of DLC titled The Master Trials has released for Switch and Wii U. For those interested, the season pass costs $20 and also includes a second bigger piece of DLC Nintendo teased during E3.
  • Bandi Namco revealed Namco Museum is making it’s way to Switch July 28 and includes Pac-Man VS and ten classic Namco games for $29.99.

Industry News


  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered is now available as a standalone game both physically or digitally for $40.
  • The Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris will be winding down in Destiny with the last events being scheduled for August 1 and the 11th.
  •  Playdead co-founder Dino Patti has revealed his next studio and it’s first game. The studio is called Jumpship and their first game is titled Somerville.
  • Raphael Colantonio, co-founder of Arkane Studios, is leaving the company after nearly 20 years in order to “spend time with my son and reflect on what is important to me and my future”. Raphael helped work on critically acclaimed games like Dishonored and Prey.
  • Assassin’s Creed Rebellion is coming soon to iOS and Android and looks a lot like Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter.
  • Rick and Morty is making it’s way to games like Rocket League, Gangs Beasts, and more.
  • The Destiny 2 beta is set to kick off off July 18 on PS4 for those who preorder and will kick off to everyone on Sony’s platform on July 21. Xbox One owners will be able to play a day later on July 19 and PC owners have been given the timeframe of ‘late August.’ Bungie has confimed the beta will contain at least one story mission, a Strike (dungeon) and a little PVP.
  • Watch Dogs 2 is getting a much anticipated patch soon which will let up to four players tear up San Francisco together and also team up for activities. And yes, cops will come after you.
