Recap 8.11.17

Reviews & Features

PlayStation

  • Guerrilla Games announced Horizon Zero Dawn’s first major DLC pack, The Frozen Wilds, will release November 7. It’s $19.99 but PS Plus owners can get a 25% discount bringing it down to $14.99.

  • Some details have leaked before PS4’s 5.0 beta has even begun. The ‘big’ feature from the leak is 1080p 60fps streaming to Twitch for owners of the PS4 Pro. Another update appears to be more granular control over PSN accounts and sub accounts.

Nintendo

  • Axiom Verge (review)(interview) has been pushed back back a few months for Switch to October 17.

  • Breath of the Wild received an update to version 1.3.1 with gameplay improvements and a new way of earning in-game items, and it’s not in the game itself. Instead, players can earn items by launching the game from select articles in the new news channel titled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Tips from the Wild.

  • A lot of people, ourselves included, have been less than happy with Nintendo’s announcement of locking a harder Metroid Fusion difficulty behind the game’s new amiibo. We aren’t annoyed about the amiibo requirement—it’s really no different than paid DLC—but we’re worried that the company’s more popular amiibo have been notoriously hard to find at their standard price. Well yeah company confirmed this week that Samus Returns will have a standard difficultly mode unlocked once the game is beat.

  •  A new ‘Samus Edition’ new Nintendo 3DS XL has been unveiled by Nintendo of America and it’s set to arrive on September 15 alongside the game.

  • Nintendo announced October 7 as the date for it’s Nintendo World Championship here in New York. You can find more details at the event’s official site here.

  • ARMS received an update to version 2.1.0. You can read all changes here under ‘Update Details’.

  • Brawlout is coming to Switch in late 2017 and has added the hero of Hyper Light Drifter to it’s roster. You can check out the reveal trailer here.

  • It has been revealed on Twitter from both developers that Super Meat Boy and Mutant Mudds are coming to Switch.

Xbox

  • After we reported on the rumor in last week’s podast, Spotify has now officially launched on Xbox One.

  • Xbox One is receiving yet another overhaul of the system’s user interface. If you’re a part of the Xbox Preview alpha ring, you should be able to download and test it out now. One of the notable features is that gamers will have the ability to customize the home screen to their liking.

  • Speaking of Xbox Preview, anyone can now sign up to be a part of the Xbox Insider Preview program. Check out all the details on the Xbox Blog.

Industry News

  • No Man’s Sky is receiving an update to improve story, add quick travel, and more in the next free patch titled Atlas Rises.

  • Spelunky and Downwell creators team up for 50-game collection UFO 50. Check out the announcement trailer here.

  • Hey, remember when someone released a beautifully done Metroid 2 remake called AM2R? Remember when Nintendo (obviously) took it down? Well the developer behind the game is now working over at Moon Studios designing levels for Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

  • Titanfall 2 has received a free horde mode which is said to be pretty good. It also received a new mobile game for iOS and Android called Titanfall: Assault.

  • Blizzard announced it’s popular objective-based team-oriented shooter Overwatch is getting deathmatch and team deathmatch modes in the Arcade portion of the game. You can watch the announcement on YouTube here.

  • Fallout 4 is finally getting its Game of the Year Edition on September 26, 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Naturally all DLC is included: Nuka-World, Vault-Tec Workshop, Contraptions Workshop, Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop, and Automatron. Also available is the Fallout 4: G.O.T.Y. Pip-Boy collector’s edition for $99.99….if you want a piece of plastic to stick on your arm. You could always try to do like I did and sell only the Pip Boy for more than you paid for the entire game and keep Fallout 4. And before you think I ripped the buyer off, they knew they were only getting the Pip Boy and were happy with their purchase.’

  • Discord has started testing video chat and screen sharing with rougly 5% of its userbase.
