Recap 8.19.16

  • Cartoon Network and developer Magic Pockets announced Cartoon Network Battle Crashers, a side scrolling beat-em-up game with four player drop in/drop out couch co-op play. It features characters from some of the network’s most popular shows like Adventure Time. You can check out the trailer.

Xbox

  • Aaron Greenberg, the head of Xbox’s games marketing, had the following to say about Scorpio and exclusives by saying Scorpio is, ”not going to have console-exclusive games for Project Scorpio,” and that it doesn\’t ”think of high-fidelity VR as console gaming, and so with the VR experiences those will be new things that you will get on Project Scorpio.”

Nintendo

  • The excellent metroidvania title Axiom Verge is heading to Wii U August 1. Antonio absolutely loved it and we got to interview the game\’s creator Thomas Happ.
  • Niantic has been sending out emails banning users caught cheating using third party apps

  • Pokken Tournament crossed one million copies sold on Wii U, which has been dying an agonizingly long death at the hands of Nintendo, scarace third party support, and the impending release of NX.

Industry News

  • Bungie adding private matches, clans, and user hosted tournaments to Destiny on current gen consoles. They also announced something called the Destiny Competition License you can read all about on Bungie\’s blog post
  • Final Fantasy XV has been delayed. Again. This time by two months to November 29. Ryan wrote up an article and embedded a video from the game director. Also, be careful as the game\’s official twitter account revealed that the \”ultimate\” collector\’s edition of FFXV will not contain the season pass. You know, the one that costs $270 fucking dollars. You\’ll need to cough up an extra $25 if you want that. Ridiculous.

  • Destiny: The Taken King\’s PlayStation exclusive content will be staying on Sony\’s platform for another year, leaving Xbox owners in the cold. While this doesn\’t affect me because I primarily play on PS4 and I don\’t play Destiny anymore, it really sucks for those on Xbox and I\’m not a fan of such long exclusivity deals between companies.

  • Blizzard launched a big update for Season 2. I have no idea what that means since I don\’t play Overwatch, but Tristan, Daney, and Will know and will talk all about it on the next episode of LAN Party.

Rumors

  • NX may be powered by Nvidia\’s Tegra 2 chip set which could make it in par with the PS4 and Xbox One models

  • A new patent from Nintendo shows a handheld with modular button inputs. For example, the console could have two joysticks or a d-pad and joystick. You could also swap out the face buttons for other button layouts
