Tony’s Take
I played Skellboy at PAX East and, in my opinion, it’s a neat little title. You play as a bare skeleton named Skippy as he fights off hordes of enemies. While there’s no experience or leveling system, Skippy can gain better gear dropped from enemies he’s slain. Different abilities such as faster movement can be obtained form the body parts of beaten enemies like their helmets, heads, torsos, or legs. While this may sound dark, the entire aesthetic immediately calls back to Paper Mario 64—so this is a friendly charming title. If I had one nitpick so far, I’d say the combat is on the slow side and I’d like to see it dialed up a bit.
