I fell in love with gaming way back when my parents got me a NES which just happened to be bundled with one of my most cherished games—Super Mario Bros 3. My father and I would spend many nights playing SMB3 and TMNT Mutants in Manhattan while my mother and I would try to best Gyromite (sadly I do not own a ROB The Robot). Growing up, stepdad and I would go head to head in Blades of Steel on snow days. The battles on ice naturally transitioned to the Nintendo 64 with Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey 98. I have fond memories playing games like TimeSplitters 2, Burnout 3, and Halo with my friends. Nowadays though I don't play many games online, with the exception of the original Destiny a couple years back. Lately I've fallen in love with my Switch with games like Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Stardew Valley

My obsession with games started with my GameBoy Color (the super awesome clear purple plastic one). I spent hundreds of hours playing Pokémon when I should have been sleeping. I moved on through the Nintendo Era to the N64 and once got in trouble and lost access to the TV...so I rigged up the console to the output micro monitor of a small hand-camera we owned under my bed. All this, just so I could have hundreds more hours lost to Mario and GoldenEye. I've got love for all games from all genres, and generally regard most titles as labors of love from their creators. You'll see me grant more leniency towards titles that others pan, but I try to do so in a way that's balanced - e.g. I'll still tell you not to buy it if it blows. I'm a huge scaredy cat, but have a deep love for Horror games, space adventures, flight sims, and exploration games.

My parents never gave me limits on screen time as a kid. As a result, I’m writing for this website where we talk about spending too much time playing games. I love playing video games, but hate the term “gamer.” I’ve spent more time mastering Spelunky than I’d care to admit. I’ll play anything I can find, especially if it involves Nintendo. I don’t understand the appeal of VR, but Tony gets it, so it can’t be THAT bad.

Games have been a part of my life for longer than I can remember, and, like the sweet embrace of a familiar lover, I fall back into their pull like waves breaking on the shore. My life with games was inevitable, and now I spend part of my time with them bringing that passion back to you all, in a curse-filled swirling shit storm that is my voice via podcast and articles here at Pixelrater. A/S/L? You wish homeboy. Gimme a game with a great story, a crazy upgrade/crafting tree, or incredible visuals and I’ll be happy. All time faves include Spyro the Dragon, SMT: Nocturne, Pokemon, Majora’s Mask, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, Rocket Knight Adventures, Bioshock, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Overwatch.
