RiME Getting Performance/Resolution Update for Switch

I remember being enthralled by RiME when it was shown off as a PlayStation exclusive. Then, years later, it was confirmed that Sony dropped the title’s exclusivity with the platform. Rather than can the project, developer Tequila Works released it across PS4, Xbox One, and PC with a release that was pushed back for Switch.

Now me, being the Switch evangelist I am, decided to wait to review it on Nintendo’s platform because I thought it’d be novel to play it on the go.

This was wrong.

To my dismay, the title ran like absolute garbage both in handheld AND docked mode! Check out my video below of the game running docked…….ouch, right? As a game, I’d give RiME an 8. It’s beautiful with a wonderful ambiance and impactful story that serves up a twist. But as for a game on Switch, I’d have to give it a 3.5 due to the glaring and almost unforgivable technical issues. With all that said, it’s good to see the dev team working to make the game playable with a new update (ver 1.0.2) slated to hit Nintendo’s, er, slate on February 19. Players can expect sharper resolution in handheld mode, a steadier framerate, and higher fidelity visual effects such as bloom, shadows, and a further draw distance.
