Sony Confirms PlayStation Neo/4k is Real

Wow. This will most certainly be interesting. During an interview with the Financial Times Sony executive Andrew House confirmed the more powerful PlayStation 4, codenamed Neo, exists. Here is what he had to say, \”It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.\”

It has also been confirmed that Neo will be more expensive than the current PS4, something everyone expected. Another tidbit we learned is that Neo will indeed have the ability to play both video content and games at up to 4k resolution. He also confirmed all future games will support both the base PS4 as well as Neo by saying, \”all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.\”

Don\’t expect to see Neo at E3 though as House has confirmed it will not be present. Why bother to bring it up at all then, you may be wondering. Well it\’s because Microsoft is rumored to be releasing a more powerful Xbox One as well and Sony needs be certain both it\’s shareholders and fans know they will have a more powerful system too.

The delay of Horizon: Zero Dawn makes me wonder if it was, in fact, delayed so that it could be a showpiece of Neo\’s technical prowess similar to how Killzone Shadow Fall was for PS4. I am also interested to see if/how this affects PlayStation VR. We\’ll have the answers to these questions as time goes on. How does this make you feel as an owner or potential future owner of PS4?
