EA E3 2018 Roundup

Unravel Two is an Adorable Co-op Adventure

And it’s available now! EA has been around for a long time and they’re a behemoth publisher in the industry. These are the kinds of titles I was excited to see revealed though, from EA’s indie publisher arm. Unravel Two brings Yarny back for a co-op adventure and it looks as cute as the first game. The biggest difference is the sequel has a focus on cooperative play which has both players using their yarn abilities to swing around and avoid hazards. EA also stressed that the new yarn adventure can be played solo if you want with the other yarn character wrapping themselves around you and allowing you to control them both.

Sea of Solitude Revealed

The next indie title EA revealed is from German studio Jo-Mei Games and focuses on loneliness and depression. This game has piqued my interest with it’s art style and focus on adventure.

Command & Conquer Goes Mobile

EA followed those announcements with an extraordinarily boring stage demo of a new competitive Command & Conquer mobile game called Command & Conquer: Rivals. When I look at it, I see a competitive mobile RTS that looks Ike every other one on the App Store…..so I don’t really know what else to say other than that.

Anthem Gets a Release Date and Details

Next up, BioWare had a bunch of people from the Anthem team discuss their thought process on how they approached making their latest IP. Like Destiny, BioWare said they’re looking to add things to the game “for years to come”, but unlike Destiny, they also said they’re pretty focused on story.

The sci fi action game is designed about the Javelin exo suit you wear. Each Javlin can be customized and is how you switch between classes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, EA stated there will be no loot boxes but they’ll be the expected customization options for your mech. You can see a gameplay demo that looks like the same third-person, Destiny-ish gameplay we’ve seen before. Even still, I think the game looks slick and I dig the pretty big bosses. EA says the game is slated to release February 22, 2019 (the same day Days Gone targeted). We’ll see if they can stick to it.

Battlefield V Gets Battle Royale

Yeah, that was the biggest reveal for the next iteration of Battlefield—a new battle royale mode which EA said is “royale reimagined”….we’ll see. Again, the company reiterated there will be no loot boxes and no premium pass.

Respawn’s Star Wars Game is Jedi: Fallen Order

As the title suggests, you’ll be playing this game as a Jedi—lightsabers and all. The game’s timeline takes place “during the dark times” between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when the Jedi are being hunted. According to EA’s Twitter, it’ll be “an original Star Wars story around a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III.” Jedi: Fallen Order is set to release in holiday 2019.

Battlefield II Gets New Content

Battlefront II is getting a slew of new content this year like a squad system, a starfighter mode, a command-post capture mode, as well as new heroes and maps taken from the Clone Wars. The title will also see the addition of new heroes including General Grievous, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker.

FIFA 19 Gets Debuts

We got a reveal trailer for FIFA 19 which launches September 28 for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Oh—and it’ll support online play for Nintendo’s console too!

Madden on Mobile….Again

EA revealed a new free update to Madden on mobile titled Madden Overdrive. According to their YouTube description:

Available as a free* update on August 15, 2018, you’ll compete in real-time PvP, strategize with NFL Captains and Coaches, and experience the gridiron like never before with realistic physics, new animations, and broadcast-style presentation. Build the Ultimate Team, dominate your rivals, and experience football greatness.
