Today’s Nintendo Direct was jam packed with bangers! First-party reveals, major remakes, and high-profile third-party announcements for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The biggest highlights included:
- A full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, giving one of Nintendo’s most beloved games a modern overhaul. Nintendo confirmed it is coming in 2026.
- Each of the three Xenoblade games are receiving Switch 2 editions with 4K/60fps docked 1080p/60fps handheld for both gameplay and cutscenes. Each game also gets other additions. All three titles can be purchased physically or digitally as well as releasing cheaper as upgrade packs for those who already own the base Switch games.
- Nintendo also unveiled Xenoblade Genesis, describing it as the start of a new era for the Xenoblade series. And it looks jaw droppingly gorgeous.
- A brand-new Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, expanding on the sports formula with Wuhu Island-inspired settings and a larger collection of activities.
- Kingdom Hearts IV received a new trailer and was confirmed for Switch 2 alongside other platforms, marking a major third-party RPG announcement.
- Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World was announced as the next entry in the long-running monster-collecting RPG franchise.
- Final Fantasy Resonance was revealed with an October launch for Switch and Switch 2.
Fans also got another look at The Duskbloods, though Nintendo stopped short of providing many new details.
After the Direct, the accompanying Treehouse presentation showcased extended gameplay from upcoming titles, including Splatoon Raiders, giving players a deeper look at exploration, customization, and combat systems.
I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say the standout moment was the confirmation that Ocarina of Time is finally receiving a full remake. Combined with the reveals of Kingdom Hearts IV, Xenoblade Genesis, and Switch Sports Resort, it made this one of Nintendo’s most significant showcases in recent memory.
