I. Love. Kingdom Hearts.
Maybe it’s the simple Action-RPG mechanics. Maybe it’s the joyous story. Maybe it’s my continued love of Disney’s wonderful characters into adulthood. Most likely, it’s my fascination with the fact that Haley Joel Osment continues to voice the youthful main character well into his AARP years of life.
Setting aside my undying passion for a moment, one of my biggest frustrations with Kingdom Hearts has been it’s timing and availability. Not just because Square Enix has been teasing us with Kingdom Hearts 3 since what feels like the dawn of time, but they also decided to release HD remakes of the first two Kingdom Hearts games well beyond the Playstation 3’s prime. By the time they were released state side, I no longer owned a PS3. The only option I’ve had to dive into the shoes of eternal man-child Sora has been on the Nintendo 3DS title Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. If you haven’t played KH:3D, I highly recommend it. You can pick it up either on the aforementioned Nintendo 3DS, or when the HD remaster, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue releases for PS4 on January 12, 2017. Trust me, it has Tron stuff, so that should be enough for you. Still, being a fine game in its own right, it’s not quite the same as the proper titles.
While I may have missed these questionably named remasters thus far, I, and many other like minded Disney fans, can finally rest easy. Our time is nigh!
Today at Paris Games Week, Square Enix announced they will be releasing a complete HD collection of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Megamix for PS4. The full games list includes:
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMix
- KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
- KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics)
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.5 ReMIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded
That’s a lot of content…
This is wonderful news! Now we PS4 owners are also able to get back into the beloved series and catch up before the eventual release of Kingdom Hearts 3. While I’m hopeful for a Nintendo Switch release to be announced, the Kingdom Hearts Megamix Collection releases for PS4 on March 28th, 2017. No price has been announced yet, but it’s safe to assume we are looking at $59.99.
