The new Metroid blasts out a teaser site

Metroid is a prized treasure of Nintendo. Metroid Prime and Super Metroid are undisputed kings of video games. Gamers have always reacted to the latest in the series with joy and anticipation!

…Then they announced Metroid Prime: Federation Force.

The E3 reveal for the latest “Metroid” game was less than stellar. Honestly, I can’t fault anyone for the reaction.

When the Big N came out at E3 and said the next game in the series not only doesn’t star bounty hunter “Samus Aran”, but will also abandon the exploration based gameplay in favor of co-op shooting, people flipped their lid. Looking back, it might have been a bit… overboard.

Even I scratched my scalp at first as to why Nintendo would do us so wrong. Do they not even care about their beloved stable of characters? Don’t we deserve something great?

But you know what? I’ve come around.

We might be marching toward six years since the last proper Metroid game, and I’m as anxious as everyone else to hop back in the shoes of the galactic bounty hunter herself. I want to shoot space pirates and back track for hours; but that day doesn’t seem to be coming any time soon, so I’ll take what I can get.

People seem to have a way of forgetting Nintendo handheld games have a way of taking liberties and doing their own thing in comparison to their console counterparts.

Nintendo has posted a teaser site to show off the upcoming game. There you can find screenshots, release info, and a nice little video of the game. It’s throwing out some major Metroid Prime: Hunters vibes, and I\’m digging it.

You can check the site out for yourself here.

This title sports the same “behind the mask” visor UI that we’ve all come to know and love from the Prime games, but this time it looks Chibi and adorable. Instead of lonely isolation, you get to hop in with 4 friends as some Kawaii looking space marines and cause some havoc.

Defending the galaxy has never been so adorable.

It’s not the Metroid we know, that much is sure. It might not end up feeling like Metroid at all. Through all that, I have no problem with the game running under the Metroid flag if it\’s a joy to play. I never need an excuse to pick up my 3DS and dive into something fun with friends. I’m actually pretty pumped to get some people together to co-op some missions… Or just play some space soccer.

So while the internet continues to flame on about living in the past…

I’ll be padding the wait with something fun and different.

I'm unabashedly in love with Nintendo; ESPECIALLY Zelda! Spelunky is my jam. Burritos are life.
