#MGYMM: Hatoful Boyfriend & The Arcana

Welcome again to that time of the week that brings you the same feeling as when you realized it was a very, very good thing that you broke up with your first boyfriend – Mobile Games You Mighta Missed. This week, we are going to be discussing TWO (you read that right, two) beautiful games, Hatoful Boyfriend and The Arcana. Love is in the air, and cupid has spared no arrow in either one of these engrossing romance sims.

First up, Hatoful Boyfriend. I had heard great things about this game when it was on steam, and BOY am I glad I took the plunge. As someone who has played romance and dating sims before, I thought Hatoful Boyfriend was a really hilarious take on the genre – the game is extremely entertaining but does not take itself seriously. It’s storylines are varied and enjoyable, keeping a brisk pace. Overall, Hatoful Boyfriend has given me everything I’ve wanted in choosing my new birdie boyfriend, and had a surprisingly large amount of depth for a game that, at first glance, seems like it would be a steaming pile of dookie. From storylines that range from heroic and romantic to overwhelmingly disturbing and murder-full, Hatoful Boyfriend keeps you guessing at every twist and turn. The birds are ridiculous(ly charming), the story bonkers, and the love you can find – priceless. Would reccomend.

Secondly, we have The Arcana, which I have fallen in love with. I can’t even begin to say how gorgeous this game looks, the art is absolutely stunning. Created by Nix Hydra Games Inc., this game started by being funded on Kickstarter, and, after it has completed it’s funding, has now been releasing content. At this time the game is still free, although it’s story is incomplete. Still, with what we are able to play, it has been able to enchant me. Initially drawn into it’s beautiful visuals, it was able to ensnare me through it’s thoughtful and imaginative storytelling, and is a gorgeous example of a fantasy/romance visual novel done RIGHT. I can’t wait to see the rest of what this game has to offer once it’s complete.

The Arcana Overall Rating: 9/10
