New Massive Elite: Dangerous Update Set to Release Later This Month

Let me be clear—I know nothing about Elite: Dangerous other than the fact that Tristan and Will are head over heels in love with the space sim. With that said, it’s been fun to see the world grow organically and witness the community make discoveries and get utterly obliterated by unexpected alien invasions. I’m here to tell you there’s a new BIG update on the horizon called Beyond — Chapter One and it comes to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 27.

Developer Frontier Developments announced that the Beyond update will be free for all players when it releases simultaneously on all platforms. The game’s world was invaded by an alien race know as the Thargoids, and Beyond pushes the game’s storyline forward with promises to reveal more about the alien’s motives and goals.

The update also introduces the Chieftan, a new ship designed to directly engage with the Thargoids. The team has also made changes to how the planet’s surfaces are rendered by adding new details and colors to enhance the experience when flying low to the surface or driving around in rovers. Another interesting addition is a system for crime and punishment. Now, serial offenders will find themselves attacked by powerful AI-controlled units from Advance Tactical Response.
