Play NYC is Fast Approaching

We had a great time last year at PlayCrafting’s first annual video game conference here in New York. Dan Butchko is a fun and passionate guy who really loves games and fostering a community of tightly-knit indie developers from the New York and Boston areas. His pool of indie wonders includes developers like Fabraz, the studio behind the excellent twitch platformer Slime-San. More and more I’m seeing games progress from the very early stages at a PlayCrafting event end up at Play NYC, then to PAX, and then on big platforms like PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.

Another thing I loved about Play NYC was the family friendly nature of it all. While I love E3 and respect and purchase mature rated games, it’s not the kind of thing I’d sit down with my kid to watch. Play NYC is something I’d love to do with my (imaginary) children, and it’s something I witnessed many families doing last year. It was heartwarming and the overall vibe from the attendees was excitement and just a raw love for the medium.

Well Dan and co are back at it again with Play NYC set to open August 11 and the 12. The company recently confirmed over 60 studios will be showing off their wares and you can expect a host of press like us and Polygon (but more importantly, us) to be in attendance as well. Dan had the following to say

We are so excited and grateful to welcome these developers, publishers, and pros to this year’s Play NYC convention! The initial list represents developers from studios large and small from around the world. Whether you’re looking to check out the latest from a big team like Avalanche Studios (Rage 2, Just Cause 3) or some of the hottest indie developers like Fabraz (Slime-san, SpiritSphere DX) we’ve already got something for everyone.

These games and more will convert the historic Hammerstein Ballroom into a playable space like no other with 4 interactive floors, exclusive installations and game debuts, a live-streaming set with some of the top streamers, and much more. We’ll see you there. You can check out our games to look out for from last year’s Play NYC, listen to our thoughts in our podcast, or watch our interview with Dan himself below. We’ll see you in August!
