Recap 1.29.16

PlayStation

  • Due to people abusing the system, those who preorder Ubisoft’s The Division through PlayStation Network will no longer gain access to the beta. This is because a flurry of people were preordering, downloading the beta, and then cancelling their online preorder.
  • Sony is merging two of it’s key PlayStation divisions, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Sony Network Entertainment International, into one division called Sony Interactive Entertainment. The change will go into effect April 1, 2016 and is seeking to “join the forces of all business units belonging to SCE and SNEI, including hardware, software, content and network services operations,” according to a press release from Sony.
  • Bethesda’s official Twitter account responded to a user stating “we’ll be sharing more details soon. Stay tuned” in regards to mods making their way to PS4.

Nintendo

  • A recent GameStop survey going out to customers asked if they are interested in purchasing the Nintendo NX within the next twelve months. While definitely intriguing, this does not in any way signal that the system will release in 2016.
  • Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, is predicting the handheld portion of the NX will release in 2016. He also claims Super Smash Bros will be a launch title.
  • The Pokémon Company released a pretty cool ad that will be airing during the Super Bowl. This along with new cards, games, movies, and other forms of media to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Check it out here

Misc Gaming

  • Amazon leaked a special edition version of Mega Man Legacy Collection for Xbox One and PS4. It comes with a Mega Man statue and collectible E-Tank that, when connected, causes the helmet to light up.
  • The Huffington Post has a fascinating article detailing how Michael Jackson created a few songs for the Sonic 3 soundtrack and why he was never credited. I had no idea about the incident and definitely suggest you check it out.
  • Overkill Software’s shooter based on The Walking Dead has been delayed into 2017. The reasoning is due to negations between companies during a merger. An excerpt from their statement reads ”Overkills’s The Walking Dead will be expanded with more content where an Asian version will be developed for simultaneous launch with the western version,” Starbreeze said of the agreement. “To maximize the new opportunities, Starbreeze, 505 Games and Skybound have decided to release the game in all markets during the second half of 2017.”
  • At age 16, Anthony Tan blew up on Reddit when he posted images from his upcoming game Way to the Woods. You can follow the official tumblr for the project here. Well in a definitely awesome turn of events, the fine folks at Team17, most known for the Worms franchise, decided to publish the game.
  • Insomniac Games announced Song of the Deep coming in Spring 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and will be published by—wait for it—GameStop. Yes, you read that right. It will be priced at $14.99. You can view the trailer here.
  • Activision and PlatinumGames (finally) revealed the trailer and official screenshots for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutants in Manhattan. I’m proud to say we broke the news before most of the big gaming outlets. You can view the trailer, screenshots, and info here
