Recap 2.10.17

Edit: This article was revised to correct misinformation regarding the PS4 and Switch versions of Puyo-Puyo Tetris.

Reviews

PlayStation

  • Do you have a PlayStation VR? Do you love Psychonauts? Well I have amazeballs news! If you preorder Psychonauts: Rhombus Ruin you’ll get the PS2 remake of the original on PS4 for free! The PS2 to PS4 games included upscaling to 1080p along with trophy support. If you’re a PlayStation Plus member you’ll also score an extra 10% off.

Nintendo

  • It has been revealed that 1-2 Switch will come with a total of 28 minigames in all. The beautiful folks over at Reddit have compiled the trailers for 18 of them, so feel free to check them out. Some of them are on the weird side to say the least.

  • During Take-Two’s latest financial call, company head Strauss Zelnick said they plan to support Nintendo Switch “long form.” Let’s hope that means Red Dead 2 and other high profile titles, which may sound laughable, but devs go where the money is.

  • Puyo-Puyo Tetris is launching in America on April 25. You’ll be buy the PS4 version on disc only for $29, while a digital version on Nintendo Switch’s eShop will also cost $29. Alternatively, there will be a physical retail release for Switch priced at a higher $40.

Industry News

  • In an interview with Famitsu, CEO Akihiro Hino said that  Ni no Kuni II is 45% complete

  • Fallout 4 player BrettonTT has posted an imgur gallery showing the game on max settings compared to the ultra high-res texture pack which just launched last week. I can tell the ultra graphics are more crisp…..but it’s probably not worth the 58GB of hard drive space it eats up in my opinion.

  • During it’s latest earnings call, Take Two confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch in fiscal 2018, between October 1, 2017 and September, 2018.

  • The ESA announced that this year’s E3 will be open to the public for the first time in a long time. You’ll be able to purchase tickets starting Monday February 13 for $150 that day only, and $250 thereafter.

  • Rockstar also announced total sales to date of GTA V across all platforms is at 75 million. That’s definitely an impressive feat. The current number one highest selling game in the world is Tetris at 495 million.

  • Netflix just spilled the beans on one of it’s newest exclusive projects—a new series based on Castlevania. More specifically, Castlevania III. Part one of the first season is slated to arrive some time in 2017 and will carry a hard R rating.

  • BluAtomVR launched two VR accessories on Kickstarter. One is a wireless motion tracking vest with haptic feedback and the other is a wireless gun.

  • During it’s latest earnings call, Ubisoft dropped the deuce that South Park: Fractured Butt Whole is delayed to fiscal 2017-2018. This puts it anywhere from three months to fifteen months away. Weak.

  • Skylanders won’t be getting a new console game for the first time since the franchise launched back in 2011. This coupled with Disney killings off Disney Infinity shows how stagnant the toys to life category of games has become. It’s a repeat of what happened with Gutair Hero and Rock Band back in the day.

  • According to Activision, the sequel to Destiny is still slated for release this year.
