New PS4 Firmware, Switch Owners Can Use Gold Points For Games, and More

PlayStation


  • Sony unveiled a God of War 4 Edition PS4 Pro that will release along side the game. Console looks nice; controller looks hideous.

  • It was announced the FMV game, Super Seducer, which centers around trying to talk to women in order to get laid, will not be releasing on PS4 like previously told. It’s on Steam where its being torn apart in the comments.

  • PS4 firmware version 5.50 has dropped for the console and adds new features such as using your own image as a wallpaper, system-wide supersampling for Pro owners on 1080p TVs, the addition more options for parental controls, and more.

Nintendo


  • Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, the enhanced port of the Wii U game, is confirmed to be $60 dollars at launch going by Nintendo’s official preorder page.

  • Switch owners can use My Nintendo Gold Points when purchasing digital games starting today. Digital eShop purchases across 3DS, Wii U, and Switch will net you 5% back while physical carts will get you 1% back.

  • Nintendo let players know that their Switch play activity is still being recorded accurately in the background and the bug will be fixed in an upcoming firmware update.

Xbox


  • State of Decay 2 will release on Xbox one and Windows 10 on May 22 for 30 bucks and will be accessible to games pass members on day one.

  • Phil Spencer recently tweeted optimism about this year’s E3 showing for Microsoft. He says they will be

    “doing some different things which I think will be good. I think we have to continue to evolve, excite, learn and get better. I like we will do all of these this year.”

  • Mixer is enabling a control sharing feature, allowing streamers to play local only multiplayer games over streams. Mixer’s minimal lag architecture makes this possible, but the small lag that does exist makes me skeptical of it being a widely used feature. It’s currently live for Xbox Preview Alpha members to try out.

  • Inside Xbox, the web series featured on the Xbox 360 dashboard, is being brought back to life as a monthly broadcast which is meant to “highlight breaking announcements and a peek behind the curtain of team xbox”

  • 8Bitdo has released a Mario-themed USB receiver which lets players use a Dualshock 4 controller to play Switch games.

  • Monster Hunter: World is now the best-selling game in Capcom’s history with 7.5M units sold to date.

  • Ubisoft has acquired indie dev Blue Mammoth Games, makers of the popular free-to-play fighter Brawlhalla.

  • Inside developer Playdead has teamed up with sex doll maker RealDoll and iam8bit to release a $375 collector’s edition. What’s in the box? The companies aren’t saying other than that it contains a PS4 physical version of Inside.

  • Universal has announced a Pokémon GO style game called Jurassic Alive for mobile. It will allow players to collect their own dinosaurs, breed their own dinosaurs, and battle with one another online.

  • Ubisoft officially announced they’re working on The Division 2 and said fans will get a first look at this year’s E3.

  • Oculus Rifts around the world experience a simultaneous outage which rendered the headsets absolutely useless for about a day. The issue stemmed from an expired security certificate which prevented the Oculus Runtime Service from starting. The company issued an emergency fix that can download from their official site here.

  • Activision announced CoD Black Ops IIII is set to release October 12 which is early for the series which typically launches around mid November. The push up is a smart move to combat being destroyed but Rockstar’s upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 release.

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the role-playing game set in 15th century Bohemia, began life as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2014. Just 36 hours into that campaign, developer Warhorse Studios introduced a number of stretch goals to raise more money which included additions like a playable female character, a dog companion and a tournament mode. Now, nearly a month after the game was released on Steam, Warhorse is unwilling to commit to fulfilling all of those goals. It also remains nonspecific as to the goals it will be able to fulfill, despite making the promised amount of money to do so. Warhorse’s PR manager released the following statement:

    “The development is currently focusing on creating the best experience for the base game as possible for as many fans as possible. There is more in development including some of the KickStarter stretch goals, but there’s no public timeframe for release yet.”

  • Rumors are ramping up that Diablo 3 will see a release on Switch, according to a new report by Eurogamer.

  • The Taiwanese video game rating board has a rating for Hellblade on Xbox One, leading players to speculate the game will see a release on Microsoft’s box. The game has received rave reviews for its story which centers around mental illness. It is also highly recommended to play with headphones on, as the game received many awards relating to it’s superb audio work.
