Nintendo


  • Nintendo has found the cause of phantom home button and screenshot presses on Minecraft for Switch. An update will be out to resolve both issues in the near future.

  • According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is working a Zelda game for iOS and Android set for release after Animal Crossing on mobile.

  • Switch remained the best selling console for the month of April here in the US, despite severe shortages. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was also the top selling game for the month.

  • After only a day into their Kickstarter, developers NanaOn-Sha and iNiS have pulled their stretch goals for Project Rap Rabbit after massive fan backlash. The team was asking for $1.1M overall to bring the game to PS4 and PC and an absurd $4.95M in the highest stretch goal for Switch. The page will be updated with a significantly lower tier for the Switch release soon.

  • Inti Creates revealed Mighty Gunvolt Burst for Switch and 3DS which will be sold as a digital only title. New features will include a character upgrade system, a new Burst Combo that adds a bonus score when taking down adjacent enemies, and HD Rumble on Switch.

Xbox


  • Microsoft is currently holding a massive Xbox One backwards compatibility flash sale. Prices are slashed up to 75% for over 275 games.

Industry News


  • The Witcher is getting a new TV series through Netflix. No word on expected air date or if the series will be live-action, CG, or both.

  • There’s a steam Greenlight project looking to bring VR support to Half Life 2 on Vive and Rift. The project will be a mod to the existing HL2 and not a standalone game.

  • Sega announced they’re considering reviving some of their dormant IP’s which has Tristan super excited. Some properties that could potentially see a refresh include Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, Burning Rangers, Jet Set Radio, and more.

  • Ubisoft announced both Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2, set for release in 2018. The company also announced that after many delays South Park: The Fractured But Whole will release October 17, 2017.

  • Sega announced fans will be able to create their own original characters to star as in the upcoming Sonic Forces, a first for any game in the series.

  • Blizzard is holding an Overwatch anniversary event May 23. As of writing there are no details as to what it will entail.

  • If you ask Tristan, this is the best news to come out of this week. Twitch is now streaming a marathon of all 886 episodes of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

  • UploadVR is facing a revolting lawsuit for claims of sexual harassment in the workplace. The tech company is accused of having a ‘kink room’ for men to have sex with women in the work place, men bragging about how many women they slept with, openly talking about and partaking in masturbation in the bathroom to ‘relieve stress’, and more.

  • DONTNOD announced they’re working on a sequel to Life is Strange. I’m excited, as it was one of my favorite games the year it came out. Here’s to (possibly) spending more time with Max and Chloe!

  • Bungie showed Destiny 2 gameplay and introduced new features like official clan support, adventure mode, and the ability to hop from planet to planet without needing to go into orbit.   • Rumor has it Warner Bros is working on a Harry Potter RPG for PS4.
