Recap 9.23.16

PlayStation

  • According to CD Projekt Red, the developer currently has no plans to release a PS4 Pro patch. This information comes from a reply to an email reddit user goveind1262 sent asking whether a Pro patch was in the works. They elaborated further by saying “Our teams are currently working very hard on our upcoming projects such as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 2077. We want to be entirely focused on the development of these projects.” Sounds good to me—I’m definitely intrigued by 2077.

Xbox

  • According to Shannon Loftis, publishing manager for Microsoft Studios, Scorpio will render all Microsoft published games natively in 4k. She told USA Today, “any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K.”

  • Mike Rayner, technical director for the Coalition, revealed in an interview with PC Gamer that Gears of War 4 will have split screen co-op on PC.

  • Microsoft announced the release of an Xbox One S Minecraft Favorites Bundle with a 500GB hard drive and a copy of Minecraft for $299. The bundle is limited to the United States and Canada starting this week and will roll out to other territories in the coming weeks.

  • A patch is available now for the Xbox One version of ReCore to shorten some of the game’s loading times. The two-minute load to the Shifting Sands area is now one minute and the original two-minute respawn times in Core Foundry have also been halved.

  • Gears of War 4 went gold on Monday, signaling the game is set to release

Nintendo

  • According to some math done by GameSpot, you have Magikarp set as your Pokémon GO buddy you’ll need to walk 248.5 miles to evolve him.

  • The Wall Street Journal dropped the bombshell that Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara told them a Pokémon title will release on NX while simultaneously confirming the platform will indeed be a console/handheld hybrid. He said the following, “The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX.”

  • During an Ubisoft presentation this week CEO Yves Guillemo had the following to say about NX, “The new Nintendo console is a fantastic machine. It’s really a new approach, it’s really Nintendo, which is coming with something new again. We love it.”

  • It has been confirmed that Super Mario Maker for 3DS will only support 2D visuals. This is hardly the only game on the system to do so, and even those that do support 3D such like the Pokémon games use it minimally.

  • The popular fan made game Pokémon Uranium will now cease development including taking its online features offline.

  • Those who preloaded Paper Mario Color Splash from Nintendo found a nice surprise—they were able to play the  full game unlocked two weeks early! Nintendo eventually caught wind of the slip up and pulled the preload page from the eShop.

Industry News

  • Hideo Kojima let fans know in a QA during TGS he had no involvement in Metal Gear Survive by saying, “It has nothing to do with me,” Kojima replied. “I know absolutely nothing about it. That’s because it’s totally unrelated to me, right? Um, how should I put this? Well, for me, Metal Gear is espionage with political fiction. Right? So, because of that, there’s no reason that zombies would show up. This is how I see it, you know?”

  • After screwing the state of Rhode Island and its taxpayers over, Curt Shilling and the executives of the now defunct 38 Studios agreed to pay a $2.5 million settlement to the state.

  • Blizzard is ditching the Battle.net name
