PlayStation

  • PS4 exclusive The Last Guardian has been delayed until December 6, 2016. The title’s been in development since 2007, so what’s another few weeks after almost a decade of waiting, right?

  • In case you haven’t turned your PS4 on this week, the big 4.00 firmware update came out. Some of it’s headlining features include folders, HDR support, an all new quick menu, and a revamped UI

Xbox

  • The Witness launched for Xbox One

  • ReCore launched this week to mixed reviews. According to the press, load times are significantly faster on PC at around 30 seconds while those on Xbox One are usually seeing load times approaching two minutes or higher. Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come with Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative.

  • The incredibly excellent title Axiom Verge is set to launch for Xbox One September 30. I loved the game and had a great face to face interview with the one man developer himself, Thomas Happ.

  • This week Microsoft crossed the 250 mark for Xbox 360 compatible titles available on Xbox One. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Nintendo

  • Nintendo announced a new 3DS XL bundle for Pokémon Sun and Moon. This somewhat backfired, however, as the overwhelming majority of it’s fanbase on social media asked about NX instead.

Industry News

  • Rob Pardo, the former Blizzard designer credited with much of World of Warcraft’s success, is opening his own studio with $25 million in venture capital and an all-star list of partners, according to The New York Times.

  • Yacht Club Games announced Shovel Knight’s next campaign update is titled Specter of Torment and will release in Spring 2017

  • Apparently Pokémon GO has lost 79% of its user base, yet it’s still currently the most popular mobile game

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Remix has been delayed to January 24, 2017

  • if you bought The Bioshock Collection and were hoping to stream it directly from your PS4 or Xbox One it turns out you can’t. According to a post on 2K’s support site it simply “isn’t an option right now”.

  • Developers from the now defunct Avalanche Studio (the makers of the Disney Infinity series) have now joined castAR which is “a new mixed reality gaming and entertainment development studio driven by former Avalanche Software talent.”

  • Ubisoft announced on their blog that South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been delayed into the first quarter of 2017. Personally, I’m okay with this since I’ll have plenty of games to play as the holiday season approaches.

  • Those of you who have a Blizzard BattleTag like xxPwnerade69 now have the ability to change your name for $10 a pop. The first time is free but if you’ve exhausted that option head here to pony up some dough for a better name.
