Nintendo

  • My Nintendo’s Gold Points (previously called Gold Coins) now expire after a year rather than the previous six month period. Users gain Gold Points through digital purchases via the eShop with other ways launching in the future.

  • A 3DS focused Nintendo Direct happened yesterday which you can watch in it’s entirety (roughly 30 minutes) here. That web link also has all the details on everything announced. Some of my personal highlights were Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (called it), Yoshi’s Wooly World 3DS Pikmin 3DS and Mario Sports Superstars. I have Wooly World for Wii U but I never finished it, so a 3DS version I can keep in my pocket is a definite second purchase. I’m also really digging the soccer in Sports Superstars. One key thing to note regarding the 3DS version of Mario Maker—there is no online sharing of levels. They can only be exchanged locally from 3DS to 3DS or via Street Pass.

  • Gold Coins for My Nintendo accounts gained by purchasing digital content through the eShop now expire after a year rather than six months like before.

Industry News

  • Niantic is unbanning previously blocked Pokémon GO users who used third party services like Pokévision

  • Allison Road, the game that threw fans of Kojima and Del Toro’s cancelled Silent Hill game into a frenzy, has been resurrected after being dropped by publisher Team17.

  • Independent game studio Renegade Kid has dissolved after being founded ten years ago by friends Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove. The studio was responsible for titles like Mutant Mudds, Xeodrifter, Dementium, Moon Chronicles, and more. They mainly focused on Nintendo’s hardware, however, later games have seen release on platforms such as PlayStation and Steam. Fortunately both creators will remain in the gaming industry, but as two entities rather than one. Atooi will be run by Jools and is now home to all of Renegade Kid’s 2D titles while Gregg is heading up Infitizmo which will retain all of Renegade Kid’s 3D titles.

  • Jools Watsham announced a new IP from Atooi titled Chicken Wiggle. It will release on iOS and 3DS. Check out the trailer and info here.

  • Square Enix and IO Interactive announced Hitman: The Complete First Season which includes all episodes and DLC along with some bonus DLC on a disc. It is set to release January 31 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Episode 2 of Batman: The Telltale Series is stepping out of the shadows on September 20 and is titled Children of Arkham. You can check out Tristan’s thoughts of episode one if you haven’t played it for yourself yet.
