Valve Buys Campo Santo and a New DOOM Movie is Coming

PlayStation

  • Detroit: Become Human has gone gold and will be receiving a PS4 demo across all regions tomorrow

  • I love the new God of War—it’s an incredible game—but I’ve had issues reading the teeny-tiny font in the menus……a trend other games like The Witcher III have. Fortunately, Sony Santa Monica released an update in version 1.12 to remedy some of the UI issues. Head to God of War’s settings, then Accessibility to increase the HUD’s text size.

Nintendo

  • Those who pre-order the Japanese version of Mario Tennis Aces you get an officially-licensed bag, which just happens to include special icon badges for each character on the roster. But among the usual suspects we see three potential players we haven’t seen in footage thus far – Birdo, Diddy Kong and the Koopa Paratrooper.

Industry News

  • PUBG Corp. announced that it will host the first official esports tournament this year from July25-29 with 20 professional teams competing in Berlin for a $2M prize pool. Teams will be able to qualify by participating in regional tournaments that will be hosted in North America, Europe and Asia. More details are expected soon on the tournament process.

  • According to a report from Kotaku, Quantic Dream has sued the French newspaper Le Monde and the website Mediapart for reports on the studio’s working conditions.

  • NBCUniversal confirmed to Variety that a new Doom movie is in the works, no doubt meant to capitalize on the game series’ excellent revival. There’s no plot details at this point, but we expect it will involve the forces of Hell, Mars and a lot of firepower.

  • Ninja Theory will donate $25K from Hellblade’s Xbox One sales to Mental Health America, something they’ve done with the title’s previous release to other charities.

  • Rockstar’s immensely successful Grand Theft Auto V has seen a re-release this week in the form of the new Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Online Edition. The Premium Online Edition features the original game with “all existing gameplay content and upgrades” and is centered on the GTA Online multiplayer element, and includes the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack, as well as previous expansions Smuggler’s Run, Bikers, Gunrunning, The Doomsday Heist and more.

  • Valve purchased Firewatch developer Campo Santo over the weekend and plans to leave the studio intact as a team, a source said, rather than absorbing them and re-assigning its employees to other projects.

  • From seemingly nowhere, the once PSVR exclusive Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is now available on PC for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift via Steam or the Oculus Store. The release goes for $19.99 and anyone that picks up the game during its first week on sale will receive a 20% discount.

  • Ben Brode, a key leader in the success of Blizzard’s Hearthstone, announced he’s leaving the company to set up a new venture. We can’t blame him, as he’s been working on that game for a decade now.

  • Tencent has announced Red Alert Online, an upcoming mobile adaptation of the Command and Conquer: Red Alert series.

  • (What I assume) are big changes are heading to Overwatch and are currently in PTR.
    – Hanzo is losing his scatter arrow ability and will now utilize storm arrows, a succession volley attack of six shots — as well as a new mid-air jump called lunge.
    – Genji’s deflect hitbox has been reduced
    – Brigitte’s shield bash has been tweaked to have a smaller cone angle (60 from 90)
    – Junkrat’s frag launcher has had its projectile size decreased slightly (and his Rip-Tire is a tad slower)
    – Lucio’s wall ride has been altered
    – Tracer’s pulse bomb now has a max damage of 300 instead of 400, because it was “too good at killing tanks.”_
