Nintendo

  • In a move I wasn’t expecting because I’ve been used to Nintendo being completely tone deaf, the company has decided to can it’s controversial Nintendo Creator’s Program it started three years ago in hopes of letting creators more easily monetize with Nintendo content. There are still guidelines, however, such as creators must include their own “creative input and commentary” in videos, meaning raw gameplay footage is not allowed. Creators must also use monetisation methods approved by Nintendo, such as YouTube’s Partner Program and the Twitch Affiliate Program (among others). No Patreon plugs for you – although the list is apparently due to be updated further along the line.

Xbox

  • Some new games are coming to Games Pass
  • The Gardens Between (November 29)
  • Mutant Year Zero (December 4)
  • Strange Brigade (December 6)

  • December’s Games with Gold has also been revealed:

  • QUBE 2
  • Never Alone
  • Dragon Age II
  • Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction

  • This might not be Xbox news, but it’s about Microsoft and technology. The company has won a $480M contract to outfit US soldiers with HoloLens AR tech for combat.

  • Sea of Thieves has received it’s fourth free content update called Shrouded Spoils which includes the following:

  • random fog that can cloak the dangers of the sea around you
  • new merchant alliance items to find such as a crate of ancient bone dust or mermaid statue gems
  • six new skeleton forts, bringing the total to 9
  • improved skeleton ships including the addition of the skeleton sloop and the Battle of the Devil’s Roar ship skirmish. Skeleton ships also now roam around with varying aggression levels
  • new ship cosmetics
  • new pirate legend commendations for Athena Levels 1-10
  • more frequent appearances from the Kraken (who’s also learned some new tricks), a range of new Megalodon variants to find and rewards and commendations for defeating these monsters

Industry News

  • If you’re loving Red Dead Redemption 2, unlike Tristan and myself, then you may love this bit of news. Well, if you have a lot of money to spend. Barking Irons, a high end New York clothing label, has released a new capsule inspired by RDR2. You can pick up gear ranging from a canvas tote for $75 to a duffel for $320 all the way to shirts and even a waxed cotton jacket for $250. For me? That’ll be a hard pass.

  • Speaking of duffel bags, people who shelled out $200 for Fallout 76’s Power Armor Edition are quite displeased. Not because a good amount of those orders arrived at least a week late or because of how abysmal the actual gamed has turned out. I mean, it’s these things, but it’s also the fact that up until people actually got their hands on the gear, they were expecting a the nice canvas duffel to store the helmet in that Bethesda has been advertising. The reality ended up being a cheap-ass nylon bag. To make things right, Bethesda is offering owners a pathetic 500 atoms which translates to $5 in game currency, which doesn’t get you much of anything.

  • Just last week, our friends across the pond in Europe decided loot boxes are a form of gambling. Now, here in the States, the FTC announced they will looking into it as well.

  • I’ve personally been enjoying The Game Awards, especially the past two years. We now have word via the official Twitter account that we can expect more than ten new games will be announced for the first time along with updates for existing titles.

  • Fortnite has now amassed 200M registered players which is up a whopping 60% since June

  • RDR 2’s online multiplayer has started making its way out to players. I’ve heard it’s been a but rocky which isn’t surprising, but I’m sure it’s in a much better state than Fallout 76.

  • After having his record stripped by Twin Galaxies, the former Donkey Kong King Billy Mitchell live-streamed him playing an arcade cabinet on Twitch and scoring 1,050,100 (the current score is held by Robbie Lakeman at 1,247,700—which is nuts for the record). Maybe he wasn’t faking it after all?

  • After almost a decade, Rockstar has abandoned its trademark for Agent, a game they previously announced as a PS3 exclusive during E3 2009.
