PlayStation


  • Old Sega Dreamcast classic, Space Channel 5, is heading to PSVR. There’s no word of release date or pricing.

  • A new patent reveals Sony may be working on a wireless PSVR successor for the future, which isn’t that surprising.

Nintendo


  • Cuphead has been announced for Switch and, like with Minecraft, the title will support Xbox Live Achievements.

Xbox


  • Rage 2 is a BEEFY looking game with a lot going on at once. On base PS4 and Xbox One the title runs at 30fps and it was revealed that the team went for smoother gameplay on the enhanced consoles with a resolution of 1080p at 60fps.

  • Rare announced the Anniversary Update for Sea of Thieves, the game’s biggest content update to date. The Anniversary Update offers new activities for every type of player and will be available on April 30 free for all players and with Xbox Game Pass. The Anniversary Update brings two major additions to the world of Sea of Thieves, as announced at X018, a new PVP mode called The Arena will pit pirates against other crews in search of loot and bragging rights. In addition, Rare introduced Tall Tales, a story-rich collection of quests players can experience solo or with their crew in “Sea of Thieves’” shared world. The first collection, ‘Shores of Gold,’ invites players to embark on an epic adventure of love, honor and betrayal in search of the mythical Shores of Gold.

Industry News


  • EA revealed that The Sims 4 will drop support for 32-bit PC’s and non-metal Mac platforms starting in June.

  • Activision is teaming up with Chinese conglomerate Tencent to deliver Call of Duty Mobile (what a clever name) for iOS and Android. The title will be a free-to-play game that brings together maps, modes, weapons, and characters from across the Call of Duty franchise, including the Black Ops and Modern Warfare series. It’s also being developed by Tencent’s Timi studio and not Activision.

  • The Atari VCS console has been delayed yet again, but at least this time you’re getting more for your money. The creators have pushed back the system’s launch to the end of 2019 in order to upgrade the SoC to a currently unannounced embedded AMD Ryzen chip, complete with Vega-based graphics.

  • Sega Ages Virtual Racing will launch this Spring with online races and 8 player split-screen multiplayer.

  • It’s been in development for a few years now, but we’ve finally got our first proper look at System Shock 3 in a new trailer, which sees the return of Warren Spector to the series.

  • To celebrate the company’s 50th birthday, Konami is releasing a set of bundles called the Anniversary Collections, which will round up a ton of games from Castlevania, Contra and the company’s arcade past. The first pack is called Arcade Classics, and will be out on April 18 for $20 and will include games like Haunted Castle, Thunder Cross, Typhoon and TwinBee. Then, coming in “Early Summer” will be the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which will include eight titles, only four (Castlevanias I-IV) of which have been announced so far. The Contra Anniversary Collection will also be out “Early Summer”, and again includes eight games, with the four announced so far being Contra, Super Contra, Super C and Contra III. All three bundles will be available digitally on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam.

  • Google is looking to take on Playstation Now and Xbox’s upcoming Project xCloud. In a keynote at Game Developers Conference, Google announced a new service, Stadia, that will allow gamers to play the biggest games on any Android or Chrome-based device (including any device with a Chrome browser). We have no details on data usage, pricing, or…..well…..anything really.
