Fortnite Out on iOS and Niantic pays $1.6M to Settle Lawsuit

PlayStation

  • God of War’s director Cory Barlog revealed that the title will run at 4K for PS4 Pro owners as well as at a higher framerate via a ‘performance mode’ running at 1080p. When pressed to give a FPS by fans, Cory declined to give specifics like 60fps, only saying it runs “smooth”. Our guess is this means will may run unlocked between 30-60fps.

  • Detroit Become Human both consoles will support HDR on both the base PS4 and PS4 Pro systems. The base PS4 will render in 1080p at 30fps, while the PS4 Pro version will checkerboard to 2160p – again at 30fps. This is the same solution both Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War are using.

Nintendo

  • Latias and Latios are now in Pokémon Go, starting today.

  • Remember when around 20K people from all over the world gathered in Chicago for Pokémon GO Fest? Remember how much of a disaster it was? Dropped connections, flat our connection refusals, and more. Well Niantic has just settled a lawsuit over the botched festival for nearly $1.6 million. That’s a lot of Poké balls!

  • Atooi started a Kickstarter for Chicken Wiggle Workshop a few weeks ago, and the game’s $30K target goal has been met. So we can expect the remastered title to make it’s way to Switch.

  • Level-5’s CEO said all future main games will be released on Switch with a new original game to be announced this year……Tristan and I are here waiting for a Fantasy Life HD port……or a proper sequel.

  • Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Ultimate Edition is coming to North America on May 8, XSEED announced today. Pricing is set at $39.99. In Europe, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Ultimate Edition was given an April 27 release date last week.

Xbox

  • Online gaming can, unfortunately, be incredibly toxic. Microsoft is looking to remedy this on it’s platforms with an update to its terms of service for online services, including Xbox Live, with a warning that offensive language could result in a ban or suspension. According to the company’s updates document:
    > In the Code of Conduct section, we’ve clarified that use of offensive language and fraudulent activity is prohibited. We’ve also clarified that violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licenses, Xbox Gold Membership time, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account.

Industry News

  • This morning, Epic Games announced Fortnite is available to all iOS users running iOS 11 on an iPhone SE or iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, or newer.

  • Daney and I may not see eye to eye on indie games, but we both loved Owlboy on Switch! I’m happy to announce that this wonderful game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, and we both agree that this title looks best on the big screen—neither one of us played it in handheld mode on Switch.
