Steam’s Chrono Trigger Getting SNES Graphics Setting and Microsoft has a big Xbox Backwards Compat Reveal for OG Xbox Games

PlayStation

  • April’s free PlayStation Plus games are available now. I’ve listen them in last week’s daily byte (or the Weekly Bit, I can’t remember). So you can find them there or just check the PSN website or store on your PS4.

Nintendo

  • Nintendo is set to release their middleware engine called Bezel Engine similar to Sony’s Pyre Engine.

  • Rocket League for Switch is out now at version 1.0.5 and adds tournaments, video capture, a Quality Mode, connection quality icons on the HUD, and much more.

  • The Switch’s eShop is now available in South Korea. While that doesn’t affect most of us, it’s really a big deal for both South Korean gamers and the industry.

Xbox

  • Microsoft has been pivoting toward old game support quite a bit this generation, and for good reason—people have been asking for it, and its competitors (Sony, Nintendo) aren’t supporting it. On April 10, Microsoft announced a new episode of Inside Xbox will focus on that very topic, promising a “big update” to kick off the show. That’s great for longtime Xbox fans, as the service currently only supports 13 games.

Industry News

  • Valve has pulled Steam Machines from their website’s front page, possibly because sales were slow as people either build a PC or buy a console.

  • Insomniac Games announced we will find out the release date for Spider-Man tomorrow as well as some new details about PS4’s exclusive title.

  • Breakaway went on an “indefinite hiatus” in October 2017. Over the weekend, Amazon Game Studios issued a status update confirming that Breakaway has been cancelled. This was one of three games Amazon Game Studios currently has in development.

  • Dark Souls Remastered will feature an improved framerate in Blighttown and throughout the entirety of the game.

  • Monolith announced they will be removing microtransactions from Middle-Earth: Shadow of War in a future update.

  • Square Enix says they have three patches in the works to fix the Steam version of Chrono Trigger. The first patch is set for April and will allow players to play the game using the original SNES graphics rather than the “enhanced” iOS style that’s only available now.

Word on the Street

  • An online game listing seems to reveal that Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch – Enhanced Edition may be heading to Switch, and with the success the console has seen in year one, we wouldn’t be surprised.
