#MGYMM: Vignettes

Welcome again to that time of the week when you’ve finally realized that you do deserve that third cheeseburger – Mobile Games You Mighta Missed. This week, were talking about Vignettes, the first game from Skeleton Business, a one person gaming company based out of France. We’re gonna keep it short and simple this week, since I believe the visuals of the game really convey how magical it is.

Vignettes is a visually beautiful explosion of optical illusions and puzzles. It’s no secret that I love a great looking game, and this one is on par with Monument Valley in it’s gorgeous visual styling and ever-changing color palettes. As you could see in the trailer, the game is a puzzle collect-a-thon, where you find yourself manipulating objects until they align with a new item (or items) that can then align and transform into something else. The act of finding new things or a new path to a new puzzle is extremely rewarding, especially after trying for a while to find the next path. This game plays like nothing else I’ve played on iOS before, and is a refreshing departure from the usual sameness of iOS games.

The game itself is a bit short and, since discovering the puzzles is the most exciting part, it doesn’t lend itself to being played over and over very well. Regardless, it makes for a SOLID mobile game, giving a very unique take on what mobile gaming can and should be. Especially considering that this is Skeleton Business’ first bite into the beefy world of game development, I’m extremely impressed and can’t wait to get a taste of the next thing they will release.

Vignettes is available on the iOS App Store for $2.99.
