Sega Reveals Mega Drive Mini and Tomb Raider Head Now at Microsoft Studios

  • Dark Souls Remastered and the Solaire of Astora amiibo have both been pushed back for Switch from May 25 until Summer 2018.

  • The Spanish version of Official Nintendo Magazine has confirmed that Pokémon on Switch will be ‘Generation Eight’.

  • Microsoft and Mojang have confirmed that, once the Minecraft’s Bedrock update has gone live, players will be able to earn achievements tied to Xbox Live by playing the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

  • Former Crystal Dynamics head of studio Darrell Gallagher is joining Microsoft Studios’ executive leadership team. Prior to his new position, Gallagher spent two years with Activision as senior vice president and a decade with Crystal Dynamics, heading up the studio’s 2013 “Tomb Raider” reboot.

  • Sea of Thieves developer, Rare, announced details for their upcoming roadmap for game content. The studio is planning about five content updates (of varying content size) before the calendar year. Some of which are:

    The Hungering Deep | expected in early May

    • Brings a new AI threat to the world, that crews will have to work together to discover and defeat as part of a unique event. Players will earn unique rewards for completing this event.

    Cursed Sails | Summer 2018

    • Will include a new ship type, and Forsaken Shores, which will introduce players to a new perilous part of the world to explore.
      Both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge and new unique rewards to claim.

  • (somehow) NBA Playgrounds is getting a sequel which is set to arrive this summer and will feature a new lineup of online and local multiplayer game modes, new courts, and more. We, uh, didn’t particularly care for it in our review.

  • We’re getting a new Castlevania game—but before you get too excited, it’s only coming to Apple’s iOS. Called Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, the title is set in a future where “Count Dracula has been completely destroyed”, but “a single letter delivered to Genya Arikado… put an end to that peaceful era”. The words “The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected” are written inside, triggering a quest to discover the author and solve the mystery.

  • Re-Logic announced the sequel to Terraria has been cancelled, citing development was significantly further behind than expected and that it was interfering with other future projects.

  • Sydney’s Jessica Estephan has become the first woman to ever win a Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix over the weekend. The event have been running since 1997, so this has been a long time coming.

  • Billy Mitchell responds: ‘We will show … everything was done according to the rules’….so stay tuned.

  • Sega announced Sega Ages (a compilation branding they have used previously) will bring over 15 classic Sega titles to the Nintendo eShop like Thunder Force IV, Sonic the Hedgehog and RPG Phantasy Star the three games currently announced. More games are to be unveiled in future reveals.

  • Sega also announced a micro-console which will come preloaded with classic Genesis games. The system is currently going by the name of MegaDrive Mini, although this is expected to change.

  • Sega also announced Shenmue I and II are coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year for $29.99.

  • EA is bringing back real-money purchases to Star Wars Battlefront 2 on April 18 that will let players purchase crystals, an in-game currency, to spend on cosmetic upgrades.

  • A new game mode is also coming to Star Wars Battlefront 2 that will let players relive the battle between the Ewoks and Imperial stormtroopers on the forest moon of Endor from Return of the Jedi, as well as play as an Ewok. The new mode, dubbed Ewok Hunt, will go live in Battlefront 2 on April 18 alongside the cosmetics based microtransaction system.

  • Ubisoft announced their E3 2018 show will take place at the following times: 1 PM PT – 4 PM ET – 9 PM in the UK – 10 in Europe

Word on the Street


  • Could Wave Race make it’s return on Switch? There are no promises, but Nintendo managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi, who played a large role with the Switch, seems interested in the possibility. At the BAFTAs last week, Takahashi said the following when asked if Wave Race will appear on Switch:

    You may see that game again. We have been trying to make many games and that may be one of them … I personally love Wave Race!”

  • According to sources with knowledge of the project, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t include a traditional single-player story mode which would make Black Ops 4 the first mainline Call of Duty to ship without a standard campaign.
